More Staff reviews, and a competition! Go on.... Have a read

WEB WEDNESDAY 6TH JUNE 2012

Name: Lee
Product: Salomon Exit 2 Aero

These are a hardwearing, breathable, lightweight, hiking shoe.  I bought them half a size larger as I find that Salomon shoes are not overly generous in size. I wear them for work and general walking around town and commuting, they have great breath- ability and look good!
Perfect for the Summer, I would rate them as 9/10

Similar Products:  Merrell Refuge Pro Ventilator or Merrell Avian Light Sport.

Name: Anthony

Product: Littlelife Crosscountry Child Carrier

A lightweight and comfortable baby carrier, that can be used for a child 6 months to 3 years in age.  It’s got a sun/shower canopy and has a pocket large enough for nappies etc.  I chose this for its comfort and ability to adjust to fit different size back lengths, which means both me and my partner can use it!
It’s great value…. 10/10!!

Similar products: Bushbaby Lite.

Name: Mike

Product: Merrell Waterpro Manistee

Fantastic quality and surprisingly hardwearing for such a lightweight shoe!  Works brilliantly in water, but equally good as an all round shoe, with a good non slip sole which aids grip when wet.  They are ideal for everyday use, with their microbe shield, which is an antibacterial barrier providing protection against odour and staining.
For it’s unrivalled breath-ability and comfort, I’d rate these a 10/10

Similar products:  none!!

Name: Adam
Product: Salomon X-Over

Great walking shoe with loads of support without stiffness.  They have a quick lace system, which gives even tightness, across the shoe.  I tend to wear half a size larger in Salomon shoes, and purchased them for work and walking.  They are a soft feel shoe, but strong, which means they are comfy enough for all day wearing.
Rate: 8/10

Name: Jeremy
Product: Rohan Stravaig 28

Excellent, tough and highly water resistant, it has a comfortable back system, outside pockets, with a useful key hanger inside and is hydration system compatible.
This is an ideal bag for day use or commuting…. can fit a laptop… it does it all!!
It really is ‘the business’.  Comfortable and versatile – and will last for years!!
Definitely 10/10

Also available in 18 or 35L sizes.

Name: Michael
Product: Deuter Speedlite 10

Another well made product from Deuter.  Lots of features including, adjustable chest strap, waist strap, side pockets, loops for gear and space for a hydration pack.  It’s just the right size for a daypack, with room for a map, food and your hydration pack.  Ideal for use when walking or cycling.  It could use a little more padding on the shoulder straps for comfort.
Rate: 8/10 – it’s a bit pricey!

Similar products: Berghaus Remote 8+4 or Speedlite 30

Name: Ben

Product: Timex Temp Compass Watch

This is a top quality watch from Timex. It’s perfect for surfers, or those engaging in sea/tidal river water sports.  It’s tough and robust which makes it ideal for physical activity in the drink.  The compass is accurate and the temperature gauge seems to be spot on…. when off the wrist and away from body heat!  I do a lot of water sports and find the tidal check invaluable.  I love the functionality of this watch, but I am not overly keen on the look of it… although this is of course personal choice.
I rate this 7/10 – if it were more stylish it would be a 10!!

Similar products: Timex have a range of watches that come with compasses, but this is the only model with the tidal/temperature sensors.

This is a well made, high quality, lower price range bivvi bag.
It is hooped for lightweight cycle touring or trekking.
Pros: Poles at both head and foot ends keeps fabric off occupant.  Ventilation ok.

It is good for lightweight trips and is very competitive on performance and price.
Well made and a good product – worth considering.
I would give it 8/10.

Name: Anthony

I would use it for hill or coastal walking.  It is well built, tough and durable. (and is also available in a ‘narrow dimension’ which is suitable for ladies or those with a shorter back)
I would rate this 9/10

Product: Rohan Microgrid Stowaway. Golden Ochre.

This is another great product by Rohan. It is warm, lightweight, dries quickly – the perfect mid layer. Made of Microgrid fabric, which enhances the passage of moisture.
If you want a mid layer of lightweight proportions then this is it!
I would give this garment 10/10

Similar products: Rohan Microgrid Stowaway V neck.

Name: Adam
Product: Coleman Phad X3 Tent. 3 Man.  Green

Good quality tent from Coleman.  Large enough for 3 people…. But, is more comfortable for 2.  It is easy and quick to pitch and is strong enough to withstand windy days.  Geodesic in design, so will hold its shape, so if you are on your own or on sand or rocky terrain where it is difficult to peg, it will still perform.
I bought the Phad X3 as I wanted a small, lightweight tent that would keep me dry.  The bedroom is a little small for 3 people, and the inner hangs a little low… but is still a great tent!
I would give  this 7/10

Similar products: Coleman Phact X3

Name: Myles
Product: Berghaus Relaxed Crew Long sleeved. Red.

This is a superb fitting, robust base layer that can be dragged through the worst environments. Has great ventilation and excellent resistance to wind.
It’s the ideal garment for walking, running, or hiking.  It has good warmth retention for the thickness of material, very comfy to wear.
I would rate it 9/10

Similar products: Helly Hansen SS Crew

Name: Michael
Product: Paramo Fuera Windproof Smock.  Cobalt.

This is an excellent value for money windproof smock.  Very lightweight and is ideal for cycling or coastal walking.  Soft feel fabric with a comfortable fit.  Not the most stylish, but extremely functional.  The DWR coating gives a degree of water repellence, which is useful if caught in a short light shower.  Great garment for those windy days!
I would rate this as 9/10  - I wouldn’t be without one!!

Similar products:  Rohan Windshadow Jacket

Name: Sam

Product: North Face eTip Gloves.  Black

A great pair of stretchy gloves….perfect for those chilly days. They are snug, warm and slim fitting!  The tip of the fore finger and thumb have a special material which allows you to use your ipad (or similar touch screen device) without removing your gloves!
I’d mark these 8/10 – I love ‘em!

Name: Mike
Product: Rohan Fusion Trousers,  Charcoal

As you’d expect from Rohan….another high quality pair of trousers.  Perfect for walking, but also smart enough to wear about town.  Slightly looser fit than some of their range, great colour and versatile.  Would make a great golfing trouser.
These deserve 10/10…!!
